Holsten Pilsener BeerName: Holsten Pilsener

Type: Pilsner

ABV (Alcohol by volume): 4.8%

Country of origin: Hamburg, Germany

Introduced: 1953

Holsten Pilsener was first developed and produced by the Holsten Brewery in Northern Germany in 1953. Since then it has expanded to many other markets, primarily in Europe, and today you can experience the great taste of Holsten Pilsener in many countries around the globe.

The distinctive, refreshing flavour and unique taste make Holsten Pils stand out from the crowd. It is brewed according to the strict German purity laws of the Reinheitsgebot of 1516 using only the finest quality, pure, all natural ingredients - hops, barley malt and spring water.

Where does the name Holsten came from?
Once upon a time a Germanic tribe, the "Holsten", lived in the middle of what is now called Holstein, the southern part of today's German state of Schleswig-Holstein. In the "Chronica Slavorum" written in the 12th century, they were described as freedom-loving, bull-headed and very hospitable. Perhaps the founders of the Holsten-Brauerei AG were thinking of this last characteristic when they christened their new company in 1879.

Holsten-Brauerei AG (Holsten Brewery plc.) is a beer brewery founded in 1879 in what is now Hamburg's Altona-Nord quarter. The name Holsten is the Danish version of Holstein. The group now has seven breweries in Germany.
In 2003 the Holsten brewery absorbed the Bavaria-St.Pauli-Brauerei GmbH with their main brand Astra.
In 2004 Holsten-Brauerei was acquired by Carlsberg. Holsten produces both Tuborg and Carlsberg for the German market.
